Cala'n Porter Holidays

Travel Agent's View

Travel Agents View there is plenty to keep the kids occupied in the resort; there are several play areas with trampolines, go-karts and amusements

Situated on the south coast, Cala'n Porter is a fairly small town which offers a great base for a relaxing holiday. What the resort lacks in size it makes up in amenities. There is a wide range of restaurants offering local and international cuisines, shops selling every day necessities as well as the usual gifts and souvenirs. There is also a good selection of bars and British pubs. One of the most famous bars on the island, Caves of Xoroi is located in the resort and is a cafe bar by day and a disco by night set a cave overlooking the sea.

The beautiful beach offers a good place to relax with sun loungers and shades for hire and soft sand and shallow waters for the kids to play and paddle. There is also a selection of water sports on offer. The beach here offers good facilities such as parking, toilets and a couple of cafe bars for snacks and drinks.

There is plenty to keep the kids occupied in the resort; there are several play areas with trampolines, go-karts and amusements. Horse riding is also a popular activity for visitors of all ages and there are also numerous sightseeing tours available.

The resort of Cala'n Porter is situated approx 11 km from the airport.

Menorca Insider One of Menorca's original tourist resorts...

One of Menorca's original tourist resorts (for 'original' read 'oldest'), the faded 'Welcome' sign, and the tired looking villas lining the road mean Cala en Porter struggles to charm visitors on first impressions. Home to a number of ex-pats, supermarkets sell overpriced Marmite and cafés pander to British tastes with offers for all day breakfasts and pints of beer.

But before you do a U-turn (and it would have to be just that, as no one comes here by accident), take a look at how Cala en Porter is smartening itself up. A lot of money has been poured into giving the resort a facelift, the results include new playgrounds and sports facilities, a central square for concerts and festivities, a breathtaking lookout point, and some thigh-burning steps for bathers returning from the neat and tidy seafront. Nature's ensured that Cala en Porter's beach is family friendly: sheer cliffs protect the bay's shallow waters so little ones can paddle in peace, while sun worshippers stretch out on its soft white sands.

Two of Cala en Porter's largest hotels have been totally reformed in the past couple of years, and when eating out, there are a handful of restaurants where you'll find locals (always a sure sign of quality). La Salamandra, with its excellent set menu, children's play area and speedy service tops my list of good value eateries.

In terms of tourist attractions, believe all the hype surrounding Cova d'en Xoroi - this series of natural caves carved out of the cliff face is several times more spectacular than it appears in postcards. Home to Menorca's premier nightclub, the Cova also opens its doors during the day. I wouldn't recommend a visit with young children (for fear of them leaning too far over the edge), but you haven't visited Menorca until you've gazed out across the Mediterranean, cocktail in hand, during the Cova's sundown chill out sessions.
