Insider's View
Son Parc has changed in recent years, shaking off its summer-only image and building up a year-round profile. The reason for this is the number of newly built villas springing up on the windy roads beneath enormous pine trees; these aren't just holiday homes as many locals now live here permanently.
Apart from these whitewashed hideaways, Son Parc offers visitors accommodation in numerous apartments and in the odd aparthotel. Most are low profile, in fact, that's one of the reasons why Son Parc is so popular as despite an abundance of accommodation, it still gives the impression of being undeveloped - the views across the beach to empty cliffs confirm this.
Son Parc's claim to fame is that it is home to Menorca's one and only golf course. I'm not a golfer myself, so I can't go into the technicalities, but on the few occasions when I've scooted around the course in a buggy I'm always struck at just how pretty the vast expanses of green broken by lakes are. Golfers assure me that the course isn't outstanding - but it does present a few challenges. Socially, there's always activity in the bar and restaurant, and the food's good too.
The wide beach has castor sugar sand and when walking out to sea, the water stays around your knees for longer than seems possible. Despite being on Menorca's north coast, which takes a good battering from bitter winter storms, Son Parc's waters are so calm you could almost be in a swimming pool. And when you need a dose of shade, the forest park gives welcome respite from the sun's rays, it's got picnic benches and play areas too. For a snack on the beach, Es Bruc Nord is ideal.
