Situated on the west coast the island, Cala n Blanes is a popular choice for young couples and families with children.
The resort was developed in the 1980's due to increasing demand for holiday accommodation in the area. The resort now offers a variety of accommodation choices for holidaymakers from large hotels offering all inclusive packages to self catering apartments or villas.
Although there isn't any night clubs in the resort the night life here can be fairly busy by Menorcan standards with numerous bars and pubs to choose from.
The resort offers a good selection of dining options ranging from fast food outlets to restaurants offering local and international cuisines.
Daytime activities tend to be beach based, the sandy beach teamed with the calm shallow sea make for great place for kids to play whilst the grown ups relax and soak up the sun. For those feeling slightly more energetic, the crystal clear waters make perfect conditions for snorkelling and scuba diving.
The nearby resort of Cala n Forcat has a water park which is great for families. Another place to visit whilst holidaying in Cala n Blanes is the former capital Ciutdella which is approx 5 km away.

The beach, though small in size, is one of the best on the west of the island. Much has been done to smarten up Cala en Blanes in recent years, there are new cycle paths, picnic areas, playgrounds and the resort is certainly prettier as a result. That doesn't change the fact that much of the accommodation is a mismatch of 1970's blocks, sprawling apartment complexes and modern villas, though, so it's not somewhere I'd recommend for architectural style.
The beach, though small in size, is one of the best on the west of the island. It's a calm inlet, one with old boat houses, low cliffs and fine sugary sand. What makes this a family friendly destination is the abundance of shade near the beach, there are several palm trees offering protection to a picnic and play area, so it's great to have easy access to somewhere that brings respite from the midday sun. If Cala en Blanes does get too busy, however, the lesser known Cala en Brut is a good alternative. Although there is little, or no, sand here, there are many smooth rock platforms for sunbathing, and steps leading down into the crystal clear waters. You can spot the lighthouse at Cap d'Artutux here too.
Cala en Blanes shares its array of bars, restaurants, shops and services with neighbouring Los Delfines. It's a chaotic resort with lots to offer, don't just settle for the first restaurant you come across. For snacks, beers and enormous pizzas and burgers, Qe Caña Qe Tapa is a good choice, and for an entire evening's entertainment, Plaza Domingo is ideal. It's got themed bars and restaurants, mini discos and games for the children, as well as live music and shows. As it's self-enclosed, it's a safe environment for a family night out.
Finally, the renovated Camí de sa Farola, which connects Cala en Blanes and Ciutadella, makes for a lovely stroll into town by the sea. It is flat, with a pavement that's wide enough for pushchairs and there is also a cycle path for the more energetic. It takes walkers into town via a stubby lighthouse at the entrance to Ciutadella's port.
